Overall Description

The 7th edition of RVA Tech Data/AI Summit will be held on March 19, 2025. It is a one-day conference dedicated to all things data engineering and data science. The summit is an engaging networking and learning experience for our attendees and we expect dynamic and highly engaging content from our speakers.

This event will be held at the Dewey Gottwald Center at the Richmond Science Center.

We anticipate morning and afternoon keynote sessions and then multiple concurrent talks in separate tracks. Each session is roughly 45 minutes total which needs to include time for Q&A. (~30-35 minutes for presentation, 10 minutes Q&A). Approximately 4 planned session times throughout the day.

We are interested in any topics surrounding the 4 key tracks mentioned in the description, with a strong preference for talks that include hands-on or demonstration learning opportunities.

Our audience will be about 600 people with a broad range of data science and engineering exposure ranging from students to deep practitioners to executive leadership. Specific tracks target specific audience segments, so ensure your talk and presentation are clearly targeted towards leadership, practitioners, or those starting or transferring their data careers.

WHEN: March 19th, 2025

WHERE: Dewey Gottwald Center

WHO SHOULD SUBMIT:

Everyone is encouraged to submit a proposal. Even if it doesn’t fit into a track neatly, we’d love to consider your innovative insight!

Please tag your talk with the track and other relevant tags listed in the submission page!

Our primary goal is to have excellent sessions that inform and engage our attendees. Thus, the speaker selection committee will be favoring speakers who have a record of delivering excellent talks, but we also understand that everyone has to start somewhere. If you are a first-time speaker, please make sure your proposal is compelling and communicates why you are the right person to deliver it. We are hoping to have a speaker pool that is representative of our local developer population and showcases some regional talent, but we welcome submissions from anyone anywhere. If you have an idea for a session, please submit it!

Track description

This year we will have 4 tracks to build the conversation around “Navigating the AI Landscape”. The tracks are as follows and we request that you submit a presentation for one or more of the following tracks. One of the talks at each time slot will take the center stage, and the 3 others will be more focused ‘breakouts’.

Tracks:

  1. Trailblazer - innovative tech talks - new methods and technology, emerging use cases

Are you working on the cutting-edge of AI and data technology? The Trailblazer track is for talks that showcase new methods, groundbreaking technologies, and emerging use cases in AI and data science. We’re looking for:

    • Innovative Techniques: Share your novel algorithms, new machine learning models, or unique applications of AI.
    • Emerging Use Cases: Highlight how AI is being integrated into new domains or solving unconventional problems.
    • Technical Deep Dives: Provide in-depth analysis and demonstrations of your latest advancements.

2. Level Up - career development track, including “base camp” talks on getting started and “advanced” talks and workshops with hands-on skill building

Help others advance in their careers with talks that span from foundational knowledge to advanced skills. The Level Up track is divided into two sub-track themes:

Example talk concepts.

Base Camp (Beginner Level):

  • Introduction to AI and Data: Present basic programming skills, fundamental data analysis techniques, or introductory machine learning or data pipeline concepts.
  • Getting Started: Provide guidance on starting a career in data, including educational resources, certifications, and entry-level project ideas.

Advanced Camp (Experienced Level):

  • Hands-On Workshops: Conduct interactive sessions on complex topics like advanced machine learning techniques, data practices and policies, or big data engineering.
  • Skill Building: Focus on practical skill enhancement with tutorials that give attendees experience with real-world tools and methodologies.

3. Compass - crafting an AI strategy at your scale, organizational change management, leadership

Guide leaders and strategists in navigating the complexities of AI integration within organizations. The Compass track is looking for:

  • Strategic Planning: Share frameworks and methodologies for developing effective AI strategies tailored to different organizational scales.
  • Change Management: Discuss best practices for managing team dynamics and driving AI adoption.
  • Leadership Insights: Offer case studies on successful AI implementations, ethical considerations, and fostering a culture of innovation.

4. Scaling - tech modernization, engineering solutions at scale

Address the engineering challenges and solutions involved in deploying data products at scale. The Scaling track is seeking talks that cover:

  • Scalable Systems: Presentations on distributed computing, cloud-based AI solutions, and data pipeline architecture.
  • Optimization Techniques: Share methods for optimizing performance and overcoming scalability challenges in large-scale AI applications.
  • Practical Insights: Real-world examples of tech modernization, along with hands-on workshops that teach attendees how to modernize their tech stack.
