Hack My Body & Brain

By Mandy Logan

Elevator Pitch

I survived “unsurvivable” brainstem stroke & brain injuries. This is how I hacked recovery & emotions using body’s electrical system when I had no speech, use of eyes, internal voice, or ability to move, making what 1 Dr called “45 years of recovery in 5”. Implications for AI and X-Men & Women? Hmm.

Description

I’m a freak. There, I said it. Seriously, look up survival rates for brainstem strokes. I was told less than 1% of stroke survivors are brainstem stroke survivors, and fewer still ever regain ability to be anything but “locked in”. Going from having to allow body to relearn core temp, blood pressure, use of each eye, speaking, comprehending speech, eventually reconnecting to each limb and relearning how to move, coordinate, handle sound, light, movement and space, I now wish to speak on how I did it, starting from using internal electrical impulses and my tongue against my teeth when there were no words. No active memory or way to describe what was going on. With every filter removed internally, and every sense hyper aware, I created a whole new frame work and hacked recovery. This covers crossing conscious/subconscious barriers and using heightened senses in ways some may think of as superhero-ish. Yet, to me, the correlation to AI and InfoSec/Cyberwarfare is nearly boundless. It goes with networking, seen and unseen, digital and human, and makes me excited for our natural-even augmented-future. Also, participants can get practical info on how I logically and lovingly working through any type of personal barrier or emotional surge and turmoil, and believe me, I spent years flat on my back in silent darkness. Every detail of what it is to be ‘me’ came up. Dark night of the soul meets Analytical Annie and sometimes serious, deadly serious things, are illuminating, even edging on delightful if you look and laugh hard enough.

Notes

I’m the best to speak on this. Period.

I have a medical alert and mobility service animal and would likely need basic projector set up.
