Elevator Pitch
This session will address some of SysAdmins headaches. Bulk automation. Whether it’s creating user accounts, providing a format to HR that will make your life easier, adhering to naming conventions and as well as connecting with their Azure accounts. Create consistent environments with automation.
Description
This session’s primary focus is to eliminate the mundane day to day AD management tasks by discovering how automating changes in your directory is not that hard with the right tools. Modifying thousands of user accounts can take seconds rather than hours. Providing HR a usable format which will make your user creations a consistent breeze. Not only do we need to be aware of our on-prem user accounts, but with the proliferation of cloud services, we also need to ensure our new and existing users are accurate and consistent in the cloud. Creating local users and then jumping to the Azure portal is maddening, here, we’ll see how we can connect through PowerShell’s Azure module and create those assets on the fly.
Notes
Technical Requirements:
##Demo will be 95% local ##Azure component will be recorded for backup purposes.
AD automation has been a godsend for those of us who have used it. As an instructor, I have witnessed students evolve at a dramatic pace once they realized what was possible when they automated tasks. I exposed students to creating user accounts in the UI, then using PowerShell to create several users manually and finally, exposed them to bulk automation of user account creation and modification. They needed to be proficient at automation in order to pass their lab exams. Time was always a factor during assessments and those students who leveraged PowerShell were able to complete with time to spare and usually finished with A’s. Today’s AD also includes some cloud components.
