Automated testing in your private cloud with Jenkins and VMware

By Eric Smalling

Elevator Pitch

It’s very common to see the use of on-demand compute resources to test Jenkins build artifacts but all-to-often public use of cloud providers is restricted. Most large organizations already have VMware in house so join us to learn how use it to provision and release VM’s as part of your CD pipeline

Description

Many organizations have various reasons to restrict the use of public cloud providers for CI/CD processes. As a build engineer it can be frustrating when you see all of the conference sessions, blogs and meetups where people are so easily able to provision and decommission VM instances on-demand. If your company has VMware based virtualization technologies deployed you are in luck as Jenkins can very easily be configured to use those tools for similar on-demand VM uses.

In this session we will show you various ways to provision, configure, use and decommission VM’s using the vSphere and/or vRealize tools you probably already have at your company.

Notes

Since the majority of big companies already use VSphere and/or VRealize Orchestration/Automation tools, my intention in this session is to show employees of those teams what’s possible using the open source plugins and/or tools already available for Jenkins.
