About the Organizers
RVA JavaScript Conf is run by a diverse team of volunteers in Richmond who share a common goal of bringing the developer community together. We are all developers and/or community organizers. While 2017 will be the first year for RVA JavaScript Conf, we have organized other conferences and community events before, and we are striving to run a low-drama event that is valuable for the attendees and enjoyable for our speakers.
CFP Description
We are anticipating running 3 concurrent talks, at 1 hour each with 5 planned session times throughout the day, 15 talks in total. If you would like to have Q&A time, please incorporate into the 1 hour session time allotted. Our audience will be about 300 JavaScript Developers, coming together to further their skills.
What Topics?
We are interested in any and all topics surrounding the vast JavaScript domain. Feel free to submit anything you think our audience would want to hear – or needs to hear. :) It can be something new and cutting edge or a fresh take on an old problem. We are looking for a diverse set of topics and do not plan to have specific tracks. The only restrictions are that it is relevant to our audience and conforms to the code of conduct.
As a suggestion, please keep in mind that most attendees will be familiar with JavaScript basics. An “Intro to jQuery” talk will probably not be selected, but if you can make a convincing argument, go for it!
Who Should Submit?
Everyone is encouraged to submit a proposal. Our primary goal is to have excellent sessions that inform and engage our attendees. Thus, the speaker selection committee will be favoring speakers who have a record of delivering excellent talks, but we also understand that everyone has to start somewhere. If you are a first-time speaker, please make sure your proposal is compelling and communicates why you are the right person to deliver it.
We are hoping to have speaker pool that is representative of our local developer population and showcases some local talent, but we welcome submissions from anyone anywhere. If you have an idea for a session, please submit it!
