CFP Description

Guidelines for Proposals

Thank you for expressing interest in speaking at GopherCon Africa Nairobi, the largest Go conference in Africa.

This marks the inauguration of the first GopherCon in Africa, with a focus on the education and discussion surrounding the Go programming language. Our goal is to gather the finest and best speakers, contributors, and educators globally to provide impactful and inspiring talks.

With a vibrant community exceeding 2000 individuals, our conference is all about diving deep into the world of Go programming and exploring related technologies, all shared by seasoned professionals and industry leaders and experts. Beyond the enriching sessions, you’ll have a unique opportunity to connect with speakers, attendees, and immerse yourself in the beauty of an African city under the sun and safari. It’s set to be an unforgettable gathering you won’t want to miss.

We’re eager to learn about your passions and what fuels them, inviting you to share the reasons reviewers should find inspiration in what excites you too.

Presentation Types

We have two types of presentations for this event:

  • Lightning Talk (25mins)/Keynote (30Mins): These talks should present big ideas of general interest to the entire attendee base. The audience will be comprised of Go programmers of all experience levels. You should aim to inspire, inform, or challenge them with your topic.

  • Talk (40mins): Talk should be a deep dive into a specific topic. Because of their smaller, self-selecting audience, technical discussions, a deep dive, live coding, and/or teaching a specific skill/technique is ideal. You should aim to educate, demonstrate, or empower them with your topic.

Important Considerations

Content

For greater consideration, your proposal should focus on Go; however, we are also open to receiving talks on related technologies. Your proposal must be original.

Speaker Selection

Gophercon-Africa values diverse voices in the Go community; this impacts how we choose the final speaker lineup. We highly encourage first-time speakers, neurodivergent presenters, and new Go community members to submit a proposal. When presented with multiple proposals of equal quality, priority will be given to diverse community members and/or new content that has not been presented previously.

Personally Identifiable Information

Please do not link or provide any information in your proposal that will disclose your identity. Our review process is double-blind, and we strive to make our Call for Speakers process impartial. Submissions that disclose identifying information will, at our discretion, be disqualified or asked to make immediate changes before the review process begins.
