CFP Description
Main Track Structure and Vision
Show the diff!
This year, we’re rethinking the CFP process by moving away from the classic “bottom-up” approach, where pre-set topics first dictate what speakers should talk about and then guide the program committee’s selections. Instead, we’re introducing horizontal speaker groups to encourage a wider range of participants across the ecosystem, while offering high-level vertical swimlanes to inspire, rather than dictate, speaker content. We believe this approach will result in a more diverse program, allowing each attendee to find content that resonates with them while exploring new ideas. At the same time, speakers will have more freedom in choosing their topics and forms of presentation. More importantly, this opens up opportunities for speakers from local communities to step onto the global Ruby conference stage. Perhaps among them are the next Matz, DHH, or Riley, already waiting for their moment. So, let’s strive for more creativity, new knowledge, and connections together!
Horizontal split
Keynote speakers — 3 talks.
Global stage speakers — 9 talks.
Local stage speakers — 8 talks.
Vertical split
Core swimlane, 50% of the program.
Just like Ruby itself, BalticRuby wants to emphasize human, rather than computer, needs. Therefore, we particularly value talks where speakers share their practical experience that has made them or the users of their product happy.
Trends and Niches swimlane, 20% of the program.
Let’s talk about specific technologies and phenomena in the Ruby ecosystem! What’s happening with Rails, Sinatra and Hanami? How is Ruby performing in AI, embedded systems, or serverless architectures? Any completely new ideas? Let’s shift the focus for a moment to things that might have gone unnoticed. Perhaps we are witnessing the birth of a new trend.
Open-source swimlane, 15% of the program.
Open-source is an important part of the Ruby and Rails community’s life. This is not only due to the importance of the software itself but also because of the amazing people and their equally amazing stories. We love open-source, and therefore, in addition to a separate practical track, we are introducing this theme for talks. Share your open-source story with us.
Juniors swimlane, 15% of the program.
Juniors are no less an important part of the Ruby and Rails ecosystem, as there is no future without them. Like last year, beginner developers will have a separate track with practical sessions; however, this year we are enhancing the training program for juniors with several talks dedicated to them from the stage.
General Requirements
This form is intended only for the submission of full-length talks. If you would like to give a lightning talk or conduct a workshop, we are fully in favor! However, please send us a separate email at hello@balticruby.org for that.
The duration of the talk should be between 30 to 45 minutes.
Humor, audience interaction, singing and dancing, as well as other types of performances are highly encouraged!
